HSBC Singapore AI Chef Showdown: Satay, Ondeh Ondeh and the AI GastroBox
What happens when tradition meets technology in the kitchen? The HSBC Singapore AI Chef Showdown brings together much-loved regional flavours and artificial intelligence in a cooking challenge like no other. Every dish is prepared with all-halal ingredients, so everyone can join the celebration.

Round 1: Indonesian Satay
The challenge opens with a Southeast Asian classic. Contestants marinate skewers in a fragrant blend of lemongrass, turmeric, garlic and kecap manis, then grill them over high heat for that signature smoky char. A rich, nutty peanut sauce completes the dish. Judges look for tender meat, balanced spice and a perfect caramelised finish.
Round 2: Ondeh Ondeh
Next comes a sweet test of precision. These chewy pandan glutinous rice balls hide a molten gula Melaka centre and are rolled in fresh grated coconut. The pandan colour must be natural and the dough soft. The best ondeh ondeh burst with syrup on the first bite, and getting that right is harder than it looks.
Round 3: The AI GastroBox
The final round is where innovation takes centre stage. Each chef receives an AI GastroBox: a surprise selection of halal ingredients chosen by artificial intelligence. With limited time and no recipe, contestants must turn the unexpected into a creative signature dish. This round shows how human skill and smart technology can work together.

Where Heritage Meets Innovation
