Johnson & Johnson’s Mystery Box Cooking Challenge: Halal, Healthier and Full of Flavour
What happens when you hand a corporate team a sealed box of ingredients and a ticking clock? You get teamwork, creativity and plenty of laughter. That’s exactly what the Johnson & Johnson team experienced at their recent mystery box cooking challenge, a team building activity built around halal ingredients and a healthier choice menu.

Starter: Mexican Chicken Fajitas
The session began with a warm-up round of Mexican chicken fajitas. Teams marinated lean chicken strips in smoky spices, then sautéed them with colourful bell peppers and onions. Served in soft tortillas with fresh salsa and a light yoghurt dressing, the fajitas proved that healthy food can still be bold and satisfying.
Main: The Mystery Box Challenge
Then came the real test. Each team opened a mystery box filled with halal-certified ingredients and had a set time to plan, cook and plate an original main course. With no recipe to follow, teams had to communicate clearly, divide tasks and think on their feet. Our chefs guided them on healthier cooking techniques, such as grilling instead of frying and using herbs instead of extra salt. The results were impressively creative, and judging was a close call.
Dessert: Molten Lava Cupcakes
To finish on a sweet note, the team baked molten lava cupcakes with gooey chocolate centres. Portion-sized cupcakes kept the indulgence in balance, and watching the molten middles flow was a crowd favourite.
Why a Cooking Challenge Works for Team Building
A corporate cooking class gets colleagues collaborating in a fun, low-pressure setting. With halal ingredients and healthier recipes, everyone can join in and enjoy the meal together.
