Looking for a team building activity in Singapore that gets everyone talking, laughing and working together? SGX Singapore found the answer in a Kitchen Showdown. Colleagues traded spreadsheets for spatulas in a fast-paced Mystery Box Challenge.
The Mystery Box Challenge
Each team opened a sealed box of ingredients without knowing what was inside. They had a limited time to plan, divide roles and cook a two-course menu: a classic local appetizer and a traditional dessert. The twist? Every team had to build its dishes around halal sauces from Prima Taste, Singapore’s well-loved home-grown brand. This made the menu inclusive for every colleague at the table.

Appetizer: Satay with a Local Twist
Teams marinated and grilled tender skewers of chicken satay, then served them with a rich, nutty peanut sauce made with Prima Taste. Getting the char just right and timing the skewers called for clear communication. One person handled the marinade, another manned the grill, and a third plated with cucumber and onion.
Dessert: Ondeh-Ondeh
For dessert, teams rolled soft pandan glutinous rice balls filled with gula melaka, then coated them in fresh grated coconut. The challenge was keeping the palm sugar centres sealed, so each ball burst with sweetness at the first bite. This step tested patience and teamwork.
